Our Chief Executive Officer, Nino DiSisto, participated in a Boss’ Blind Date immersive fundraising challenge where he spent the day in darkness on Friday, 23 March 2018 to raise awareness and funds for Guide Dogs SA/NT. A guide dog also visited each of our residential aged care facilities on Friday, 23 and Monday, 26 March 2018 promoting their great work and brightening the day of many residents.

Nino was required to undertake a range of tasks, assisted by his Executive Assistant, including travelling (in the passenger seat!) between our sites, meeting with residents and their families, going out for lunch, and signing off on documents – all while wearing a blindfold.  The challenge for Nino was to make it through one work day, but for the thousands of South Australians who are blind or vision impaired, these are challenges they face on a daily basis.  Guide Dogs SA/NT delivers life-changing services to these people, providing them with safety, independence and freedom.

Providing these services comes at a cost, and the demand for them is growing. It costs over $35,000 to breed and train a Guide Dog puppy to become an invaluable aid for a person with vision impairment. This event assisted Guide Dogs to raise the funds that will allow them to continue changing lives.

A big thank you from Nino to all who supported this initiative. Nino now has a greater appreciation and respect for the many people who go about their day to day lives with a vision impairment.
